ABOUT THIS SITE
priceCapRates.co.uk publishes current and historical Ofgem energy price cap data for all 14 UK distribution network regions. Free to use, updated quarterly, sourced directly from Ofgem's public data releases.
priceCapRates.co.uk is a standalone reference resource for UK domestic energy price cap data. It publishes the unit rates and standing charges set by Ofgem each quarter for all 14 UK electricity and gas distribution network regions, so households can quickly find the rates that apply to their postcode.
Unlike energy comparison sites, this site does not compare tariffs or facilitate switching directly. It exists solely as a reference tool -- a place to find accurate, Ofgem-sourced rate data quickly, understand how rates vary by region, and track how prices have changed over time.
Live tariff comparison and energy switching is available through our partner site Utility Matchmaker, which uses TheEnergyShop's Ofgem Confidence Code accredited platform.

Unit rates and standing charges for every UK electricity and gas distribution network region, updated each quarter.
A complete record of the Ofgem price cap from 2019 to present, including the 2021 to 2023 energy crisis and the government's Energy Price Guarantee.
Data is reviewed and updated each time Ofgem announces a new quarterly price cap, typically in February, May, August, and November.
The price cap sets the maximum rates suppliers can charge on standard variable tariffs. Understanding how it works helps you make sense of your energy bill.
The price cap sets the maximum unit rate (pence per kWh) and standing charge (pence per day) suppliers can apply to domestic customers on standard variable tariffs. It does not cap your total bill -- a higher-usage household will pay more.
Ofgem sets the cap quarterly based on wholesale energy costs, network charges, supplier operating costs, and a limited profit margin. When wholesale prices rise, the cap typically rises. When they fall, it falls.
The cap is reviewed four times per year. It applies from 1 January, 1 April, 1 July, and 1 October each year. Ofgem announces each new level approximately six weeks before it takes effect.
All price cap data on this site is sourced from Ofgem's official quarterly price cap announcements and the Ofgem Retail Market Indicators dataset. Ofgem publishes this data under the Open Government Licence v3.0, which permits free use, adaptation, and redistribution provided the source is acknowledged.
